New Carlisle
New Carlisle is the birthplace of René Levesque, prime minister of Quebec from 1976 to 1985.
Implemented in 2018 along highway 132 the Rene Levesque Park overlooks the Bay of Chaleur. Here you will find a statue of him and a notable list of his works of this historic character of Quebec’s history.
Situated in the eastern part of the MRC of Bonaventure, New Carlisle covers an area of 67,19 km, and a population of 1410 (2020). New Carlisle is the regional administrative center for several Quebec governmental ministries, such as transportation and justice.
