What is the urban planning and territorial organisation chart?

The first chart for the MRC of Bonaventure was established and adopted the 20th of December 1988. Its elaboration took 5 years, starting from June 1983. The 2nd version of this chart was then established and adopted on October 10th 2008.

This chart is a mandatory regional tool that an MRC must adopt with respect to the urban planning laws and territorial organisation laws. The counsel of the MRC must establish priorities and objectives it wishes to aim for and accomplish within a 5 year period, every 5 years.

The territorial organisation chart must also define certain affectations to certain zones within the boundaries of the MRC. For example, the chart defines low lying flood lands and areas that are prone to erosion. Moreover, areas that have an aesthetic, cultural or historic value are identified and protected in the chart.

Each municipality must then produce an urban planning chart in accordance with the objectives and orientations established the mother plan of the MRC. This in turn means that each municipality must adopt and respect established zoning laws, construction laws and other bylaws dictated by the territorial planning chart.

Note :

The chart itself and supporting maps are available on the web site of the MRC of Bonaventure.
